Ive been praying lately that God will help me NOTICE people. Something that has weighed heavily on my heart lately has been all the people that I MISS in my daily life. For the past several years I've been praying that God would change my heart and mind to really SEE people. To hear them and notice them and respond to them.
Of course I want to be more aware of those in my life that I'm close to and I pray DAILY that God will help me be a better Christian, wife, mother and friend, but what I'm really talking about here are the people that I have brief encouters with...people that I may have only a few moments with and then...they're gone.
Moments in the grocery store...moments on the freeway...moments at the mall or while shopping elsewhere...passing someone in a hallway or the clerk at the bookstore.
It's so easy to be so caught up in my own life that I MISS the gift that these moments can be for God...glorifying Him by exchanging a smile or an uplifting comment with a complete stranger.
The thing of it is...they aren't strangers to God. He knows every "stranger" in my life very intimately. He knows their aches, their pains, their joys, their desires, their hurts. He knows the EXACT number of hairs on their head. We are all His children and He cares about each living person.
There's a song out right now that really speaks to my heart about this subject...I'll share the lyrics below...and also, you can hear the song on the artist's myspace page.
Today, I pray this prayer: Lord, give me your eyes. Let me see people the way you see them.
Lyrics, below. Listen to the song here.
Looked down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight
Touched down on the cold black tile
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breath in the familiar shock
Of confusion and chaos
Are those people going somewhere?
Why have I never cared?
Chorus
Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the once forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
yeah .. yeah .. yeah .. yeah
Step out on a busy street
See a girl and our eyes meet
Does her best to smile at me
To hide whats underneath
There’s a man just to her right
Black suit and a bright red tie
To ashamed to tell his wife
He’s out of work
He’s buying time
Are those people going somewhere?
Why have I never cared?
Chorus
Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the once forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
yeah .. yeah .. yeah .. yeah
I’ve been there a million times
A couple of million eyes
Just moving past me by
I swear I never thought that I was wrong
Well I want a second glance
So give me a second chance
To see the way you see the people all alone
Chorus
Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the once forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
yeah .. yeah .. yeah .. yeah
Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the once forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
yeah .. yeah .. yeah .. yeah

Oh my goodness. I LOVE this song too. I have been praying the same prayer over these last few months! God had opened my eyes to so much...it weighs heavy on my heart to see the hurting and broken out there, but gives me joy knowing that now that I know, I can make a difference.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful thoughts, and the lyrics too...beautiful!
Blessings,
Kara
